Life on board: the catamaran, the sea and unforgettable sunsets

Life on the water

Picture this: you wake up in your cabin and, instead of packing a suitcase and rushing for a noisy ferry, you simply dive into the clear sea straight off the side of the boat. While you swim, the chef is already making breakfast from local produce, and our skipper is setting course for the next town.
Over the week you will get to see Naples, Ischia, Capri, Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento and Pompeii, and each of them could be a journey of its own.
We will slip into secret grottoes, wander the narrow streets of Sorrento and then return to our own catamaran for peace and privacy. We will even play tennis on that legendary court in Positano.
In one week you will see Italy in a way no coach tour could ever show you.

Where the sea meets the table

We arrange the transfers, book the best restaurants, choose the route and take care of every detail. All you have to do is enjoy it.
We believe real rest needs rhythm: a cultural programme balanced with lazy hours on the water. That is what Update Camp is all about.
A catamaran means freedom. You are not tied to hotel or bus timetables. The route is built around the weather, what the group wants and the best moments of the season.

A morning cappuccino in Naples, limoncello over ice in Sorrento and a candlelit dinner at a taverna in Amalfi: the taste of Italy is with you every day of the journey.

Tennis in Positano

The most unusual place on our route is the Tennis on the Seventh Floor court, set right between the cliffs of Positano with a breathtaking view over the whole bay.
You can play here in the evening too: the court is floodlit, and at sunset the view of the bay is even more striking.
The court opened in 1987. Two courts, singles or doubles, and a coach if you would like one.

Day by day

The catamaran, your home for the week
Day 1
Casting off
Naples – Salerno marina – catamaran
You land in Naples, and an hour and a half later the road ends at the pier of Salerno's marina. The catamaran becomes your home for the week: a cabin for two, your own shower, a view of the masts of neighbouring boats. Your big suitcase stays ashore, and in the evening the group gathers around one table for the first time.
On deck during the passage
Day 2
First day under sail
Salerno – a bay – Amalfi
The first sailing day sets the rhythm of the week: breakfast at the mooring, a passage under sail and a swim in the open sea while the chef lays out lunch. You approach Amalfi from the water, and the cathedral on the square reveals itself all at once, with no hairpin bends or parking. The best spot on a catamaran, it turns out, is the bow trampoline above the water.
Positano from the sea
Day 3
Positano from the water
Amalfi – a swim – moorings off Positano
Positano clings to the hillside, and from the sea you see all of it at once: houses rising in steps, the church dome, stairways instead of streets. The catamaran spends the night on a mooring buoy close to shore, and you get to town by water taxi. In the evening Positano lights up from the bottom to the top, and you watch it from the deck.
The tennis court between the cliffs above Positano
Day 4
Tennis above the bay
A court among the cliffs – passage to Sorrento
In the morning you play on the Tennis on the Seventh Floor court, which hangs between the cliffs above the bay of Positano: a serve, and the ball flies against the backdrop of the sea. Then the catamarans head for Sorrento, the longest passage of the first half of the week. In the evening the town greets you with everyday Italian life, a pleasant contrast after three days on the water.
The Faraglioni rocks with the catamaran nearby
Day 5
The Faraglioni rocks
Sorrento – Capri – a night on a mooring
A passage to Capri and a stop at the Faraglioni: three rocks rising straight out of the sea, with an arch you can swim through. In the evening the group goes up into town for a stroll around the Piazzetta, then spends the night back on the water. Capri from the sea is empty turquoise and rock, and that view stays with you longer than the shop windows.
At the stern on the way to Ischia
Day 6
Capri and the passage to Ischia
Funicular – beach club – the longest passage
A morning on Capri: the funicular up, a stroll and, if you like, a beach club by the Faraglioni. Then the catamarans set off for Ischia, the island of hot springs and the Aragonese Castle. The long passage flies by: music, wind and sun on deck.
Farewell dinner in Salerno
Day 7
A castle, Pompeii and a farewell dinner
Ischia – Pompeii – Salerno
The last swim of the trip, by the walls of the Aragonese Castle while the water is calm. Then Pompeii with a guide: streets, cart ruts and houses that lay under ash for two thousand years. In the evening the catamaran returns to Salerno, and over the farewell dinner it turns out that a week ago half the group didn't know each other.
The last breakfast on deck
Day 8
Heading home
Salerno – Naples Airport
An early morning at the marina: silence, masts swaying in one rhythm, catamarans being made ready for the next group. Transfers take you to Naples Airport in time for your flights. For a few days after you get home, the ground under your feet still seems to sway a little.
