Why Kyrgyzstan?

Turquoise high-mountain lakes, roads winding through endless valleys, nights in yurts under the stars, horses, canyons and almost no sign of civilisation around you.

One day we drive through mountain passes and wild valleys, the next we wake up in a yurt on the shore of high-altitude Song-Kul, and after that we make our way to Kel-Suu, hidden away among the rocks.

A week away from the city with Update Camp

Where ordinary roads end

Here, the road itself is the point.

We will drive in 4x4s along hairpin bends, over passes and through valleys, stopping wherever you just want to get out of the car and look around in silence for a few minutes.

Part of the route runs through remote corners of the country that are hard to reach.

That is exactly why we get to see a Kyrgyzstan that most travellers simply never see.

A night in a yurt. A morning by the lake. And no city anywhere around

One of the strongest feelings on this trip is finding yourself in the middle of real high mountains.

We will stay in yurts and glamping camps, wake up among the mountains and see horses right outside the window.

And we will spend our evenings where, instead of city lights, there is only the sunset and a vast starry sky.

You don't have to look for beautiful views here: they quite literally keep you company all the way.

Two lakes worth seeing Kyrgyzstan for

Song-Kul is a vast high-mountain lake among green pastures, yurts and herds of horses.

Kel-Suu is something else entirely: bright turquoise water, a narrow canyon and sheer cliffs all around, as if the lake had been hidden inside the mountains.
