Madagascar is one of the most untouched corners of the planet: more than 90% of its plants and animals are endemic, and this is the land of lemurs, remarkable baobabs and chameleons.

An island like nowhere else

This is an island where 90% of plants and animals are endemic: the land of lemurs, remarkable baobabs and chameleons.
We will be on the move a lot: changing hotels every 2–3 days, flying in light aircraft, travelling by boat and by 4x4, to see Madagascar in all its variety, from the baobabs to the ocean.
Twelve days, and you will see the kind of nature you have only ever seen in documentaries.
Madagascar draws you into its own atmosphere: wood, salt on your skin and sunsets over the ocean instead of marble and mirrors.

Flights, lodges and the whales of Mauritius

We arrange all domestic flights, transfers and accommodation, so all you have to do is watch the lemurs and the whales.
On the island we travel by Mercedes Sprinter and Toyota Prado, and between regions there are four domestic flights: two on private Cessnas and two on scheduled services.
After Madagascar, a few days on Mauritius: the beach, a helicopter over the “underwater waterfall” and a trip out to sea to see humpback whales.
Flights, lodges and the whales of Mauritius

From an eco-hotel among the baobabs to a five-star resort beneath Le Morne, the accommodation changes with the rhythm of the journey.

Evenings at Anjajavy

After a full day: windsurfing, snorkelling, kayaking or simply the beach outside your room, where you can see lemurs in the trees.
In the evening you can join the tea ceremony at the Oasis, with cool drinks, tea and home-made pastries.
Here everyone sets their own pace: some catch the sunset from the terrace, others catch the last wave on a kite.

Day by day

A road across the Madagascar highlands
Day 1
Arrival in Antananarivo
A hilltop capital and getting to know each other
You land in Madagascar's capital, where many passport holders can get a visa on arrival, right at passport control. Hotel, a rest after the flight and a welcome dinner. Your trip leader explains the essentials: how the small planes fly, the local taboos known as fady, and mora mora, the island's rule of never rushing.
The coast by Anjajavy lodge
Day 2
Flight to Anjajavy
A small plane and a lodge by the ocean
An early start and a small-plane flight to the north-west coast. Anjajavy le Lodge sits in its own private reserve, between forest, beach and ocean. Lemurs come out onto the grounds in time for evening tea.
An empty beach and a boat in the bay
Day 3
Boat day
A fishing village and Moramba Bay
In the morning, a boat to a fishing village of the Sakalava people: the school, daily routines and a way of life that has barely changed in decades. Then Moramba Bay: swimming, snorkelling and a ride along the mangroves. Lunch is laid out right on an untouched beach.
A lemur on the lodge railing
Day 4
A free day at Anjajavy
Lemurs, kayaks and the spa
A day at your own pace: forest walks with the lodge's guide, kayaking, the pool and the spa. Sifakas leap through the trees right above the trail, and you can walk along the beach to the bones of a whale. For an extra charge: fishing or a walk to see the giant tortoises.
Sunset over the Mozambique Channel
Day 5
Flight to Morondava
Two flights and the Mozambique Channel coast
Two flights in one day: from the lodge to the capital, and from there to Morondava on the west coast. Check-in at a bungalow on the shore of the Mozambique Channel. A quiet evening by the water before the biggest day of the route.
The Avenue of the Baobabs at sunset
Day 6
The Avenue of the Baobabs and Kirindy Forest
Madagascar's signature shot
In the morning, while there are still few people around, the first stop is the Avenue of the Baobabs, with trees more than 800 years old. Then off-road to the dry forest of Kirindy, home to lemurs, including the tiny mouse lemur. By sunset the group is back at the baobabs: this is the shot of the whole trip.
Lemurs of Madagascar
Day 7
Back to Antananarivo
A flight and a quiet evening
A flight back to the capital and a quiet evening at the hotel. It is a breather between the wild part of the route and the ocean resort. The perfect moment to sort through your lemur photos and get a good night's sleep before Mauritius.
A Mauritius resort in the evening
Day 8
Flight to Mauritius
From expedition to resort
A short flight to Mauritius and a transfer along winding mountain roads to the St. Regis. After several days of expedition life: white sand, the pool and the ocean on your doorstep. The evening is yours: the resort, dinner and the sunset.
The underwater waterfall off Le Morne
Day 9
Mauritius from above
The underwater waterfall and an island tour
In the morning, a helicopter flight over the “underwater waterfall” off Le Morne: an optical illusion that photographers fly to Mauritius for. Then a tour of the island: a Hindu temple in Port Louis, the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, lunch in Grand Baie and the red-roofed church at Cap Malheureux.
A whale's tail above the water
Day 10
Whale day
Out on the ocean at dawn
Early in the morning the boats head out to sea to find humpback whales and sperm whales: on our first departure, the group saw 15–20 whales. Guides who are also videographers come with you, and the filming is included. After lunch, free time on the beach.
A beach in Mauritius
Day 11
Free day
Beach, spa and downtime
A day for yourself: the beach, the pool, the spa and a long lunch by the water. After such a full expedition, you need it to let everything you have seen sink in. In the evening, the group's farewell dinner.
The natural landscape of Mauritius
Day 12
Departure
Transfers to Mauritius airport
Private transfers to the airport to suit your flights. Twelve days, two islands and two completely different worlds: wild Madagascar and Mauritius, the resort island. You head home with photos you could not take anywhere else.
Your travel expert will send you the detailed itinerary, upcoming departures and the price in the chat.
